A. MTN Gift Data service enables you to buy data for a friend, transfer data from your active balance, or request data from your friends.  

With MTN Data Gifting, you can send and buy data bundles for other smartphones, modems, and tablets. 

The service is available to all MTN customers. Whether you want to surprise a friend with a data bundle or need to request data from someone, MTN Data Gifting has got you covered.

You can access the service by using the myMTN app or by dialling the USSD codes (*321*2# or *312*8#).

  • myMTN app: Click ‘Share’ button, then ‘Data Share’
  • Transfer from Data Balance:
    1. Dial *312*PhoneNumber*DataAmount#. Example: Dial *312*08031235678*100# to transfer 100MB to 08031235678.
    2. Dial *321*2#, then select 1, enter recipient’s number, select the data amount, then confirm the data amount to complete the data transfer.
    3. Text “Transfer PhoneNumber DataAmount” to “312”. Example: Text “Transfer 08031235678 100” to “312” to transfer 100MB to 08031235678
  • Buy for a Friend:
    1. Dial*312*BundleActivationCode* PhoneNumber#.
    2. Dial *321*2#, then select 2, then select bundle type (Data Plans, Social Bundle, or Video Packs), then select the bundle validity (daily, weekly, or monthly), then select the bundle, then enter recipient’s number, confirm the number to complete the buy-for-a-friend.
  • Request from a Friend:
    1. Dial *312*8# or *321*2#, then select 3, then enter the donor’s number.
  • View Pending Request: Dial *312*8# then select 4 to view the list of beneficiaries.
  • Automate Data Transfer:
    1. Dial *312*8# or *321*2#, then select 5, then select Enter Beneficiary’s number.
    2. Dial *312*8# or *321*2#, then select 5, then select Manage Beneficiary List, to add or remove beneficiary.

Note: When you recharge from N500 and above on your line, you will get a menu with the Gift Data option. You will be able to gift data once you select the option.

A. No. You only need to enter your beneficiary’s phone number and choose a data plan to use the service. 

What amount of data can I transfer at a time? What amount of data can I transfer at a time?

A. The amount of data you can transfer at a time are 100MB, 200MB, 500MB, 1GB, 2GB, 3GB and 5GB. However, you must ensure you have at least 100MB in your data balance after every transfer for your transfer to be successful.
